The Charentais melon is a sweet and fragrant melon with a striking orange centre, it is a variety of cantaloupe originating from France.

History

The Charentais Melon originated in the Charentes region of France, and is most associated with the Provençal area around the town of Cavailon an area known for growing melons.


Regions

The Charentais is a french cantaloupe variety and only true Charentais come from the region, other hybrids are grown around the world, notably in South America but they're outer rind does not provide enough protection to make them suitable for sea freight. 


Flavours & Texture

Tastes very similar to a Cantaloupe melon also has a much more intense and fragrant aroma.


Preparation

Cut in Half from top to bottom and then into segments. You can eat it raw, in a fruit salad, or make juice, or smoothies.
